IN what is believed to be a first for a Probus Club in Australia the Port Macquarie and District Combined Probus Club had a horse race named after the club.
Some 38 members of the club attended the Port Macquarie races on 18 March. The race club named the first race on the seven-card program the Port Macquarie and District Combined Probus Club Maiden Plate in their honour.
A spokesperson for the club said to his knowledge a race meeting in Australia had never been named after a Probus Club.
“This was truly a first for a Probus Club,” he said.
“The Port Macquarie and District Combined Probus Club attend a race meeting at Port Macquarie every year. We enjoy good food, good company and of course have the enjoyment of having a flutter or two on the races.
“The day is always very well supported. Members have a wonderful lunch and then either win a little or lose a little but always have a wonderful day.”
