TIME is running out for young leaders interested in undertaking the 2014 Kokoda Youth Leadership Challenge.
Now in its 10th year, the Kokoda Youth Leadership Challenge is a program founded by the RSL and Services Clubs Association to ensure that the spirit of Kokoda lives on.
The challenge, open to people aged between 17 and 22, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for young leaders to put their leadership skills to the test and conquer the arduous Kokoda Track.
As part of the fully-paid for trip, the group will be assisted by an experienced trek leader and several local guides who will ensure that the original wartime trail is followed for the 10-day trek, scheduled for 20 September to 1 October this year.
More than 600 Australian soldiers died along the Kokoda Track during the 1942 campaign, helping prevent the Japanese Army from launching a full scale assault on Australia.
The track is physically demanding, with participants expected to trek through mud and rain, across mountain ranges up to 7000 feet above sea level while carrying a 15kg backpack.
Applications close Thursday 1 May, at 11.59pm. For more information or for an application form, please visit www.clubsnsw.com.au/kokoda2014 or email kokoda@clubsnsw.com.au.
