Slow moves to good health

GET ready for some great slow moves this weekend.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s Move Eat Live Well program is supporting World Tai Chi and Qigong Day on Saturday 26 April.
The day is celebrated on the last Saturday of April every year in hundreds of cities, spanning more than 80 nations. This year’s theme is One World, One Breath.
Tai chi is known as one of the most effective exercises for health and is practised throughout the world. The techniques used in tai chi help strengthen and mobilise all joints and muscles, improve balance and co-ordination, physical fitness and mental relaxation, integrating the mind and body, allowing for total harmony.
Tai chi demonstrations will be held between 8.30am and 10.30am on the Mezzanine Level at the Glasshouse, Port Macquarie.
There will also be a free tai chi workshop with a qualified instructor for those people interested in taking part in the day’s activities. Places are limited as there will be only be one practical workshop.
Council Healthy Communities co-ordinator Maya Spannari is encouraging residents to come along and to learn more about tai chi and qigong, an evidence-based falls prevention exercise program that is gentle in movement and suitable for all ages.
The date was originally advertised as Thursday 24 April but organisers have postponed it to Saturday 26 April.
