NEW traffic lights on the corner of Hastings River Drive and Boundary Street in Port Macquarie are on track for completion.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s infrastructure delivery group manager Gary Randall has confirmed that kerb and guttering works at the busy intersection were to be completed recently. The final stage of the construction sequence is pavement resurfacing.
Mr Randall said asphalt placement would take about three weeks – however work will be carried out at night to minimise any impact on traffic movement.
Completion of asphalt placement will be followed by the construction of median islands as well as line marking, signage installation and landscaping.
Mr Randall said weather permitting – and subject to timely completion of works by various sub-contractors – the project is on track for completion in early May.
Work on the intersection commenced in October as part of the overall upgrade of Hastings River Drive between Park and Boundary streets.
Installation of the traffic lights coincides with the completion of the Port Macquarie airport upgrade and an expected increase in traffic volume.
The work is being undertaken at a cost of about $2.5 million and forms part of the adopted operational plan for 2013/14.
