TACKING Point Surf Life Saving Club held a very successful fund-raiser at the doughnut service centre near Port Macquarie over the long weekend.
“With many families travelling, it proved a perfect place for the club to take advantage of the generosity of the travelling public,” a spokesperson for the club said.
“Over $3500 was raised over two days. We would like to thank the generosity of all the families that donated what change they could over the long weekend.
“The much-needed funds will go a long way to assisting us run club and community events as well as repair surf life-saving equipment into the new season.
“A special thank-you must be extended to the following families that gave up some of their weekend to ensure that the event was the success that it was: the Hortons, Clarkes, Milligans, Woodhams, Strahorns, Christiansons and Williams.
“All families commented that there was a real sense of community among all travellers with many donating every available spare piece of change within their car. The club members were decked out in full club uniform and the Nippers proved especially popular with many families requesting to personally donate into their donation cans.
“The cadets represented by the Lesmond family also visited the service centre on the Monday and they also commented on the terrific generosity shown by the public.
“Mark Lesmond dressed the family dog in the club uniform and this proved very popular as many people paid to be photographed alongside their dog.
“All in all it was a very successful two days, capping off another great season with many families introducing their children to surf life-saving, swimming and beach activities. We look forward to seeing you all down at our beach in the new season.”
