THIS National Law Week (12-18 May), the NSW Trustee and Guardian is making it easier for local residents to make or update their wills by holding a special wills day in Port Macquarie on Saturday 17 May
A will is a legal document every adult over the age of 18 should have in place and, to ensure it is legally valid, it is important to have it drafted by a professional.
“NSW Trustee and Guardian staff will be on hand to make sure you have a professionally drafted will to avoid costly legal interpretation down the track,” Port Macquarie branch manager Jenni Edwards said.
“NSW Trustee and Guardian is the largest will-making body in NSW and we have dealt with all types of estate plans and family situations,” Ms Edwards said.
“We are encouraging people in the local area to take time out of their busy schedule on this one day to get their will organised so they can then go on living their life, knowing they have clearly set out their future wishes.”
If you die without a will, your items of monetary value (including real estate, insurance payouts, cars) and sentimental value (jewellery, mum’s recipe collection) may not be distributed as you may have wanted.
It’s also important to consider when making a will who will be appointed as executor. The executor carries out the directions contained in the will. In some instances the work of an executor can be complex and time consuming, requiring knowledge of law, accounting and taxation requirements. With 100 years of experience as an independent executor, NSW Trustee and Guardian offers the full range of estate administration services with professional staff including trust managers, accountants and solicitors.
There is no charge to write a will when NSW Trustee and Guardian is appointed as the professional executor. Charges apply on deceased estate administration only.
People should also update a will when life circumstances change, like if they get married or divorced, move in with a partner, have children or buy a business or inherit a property.
NSW Trustee and Guardian will hold wills days around the state on Saturday 17 May, and is also open any Monday to Friday during normal business hours. The Port Macquarie office is at Shop 2, 114 William Street, Port Macquarie.
Bookings for wills days are essential to ensure a time is allocated. To make an appointment, phone 6584 0741.
