Wearing their pride on their sleeves

In footy-fever mode - Westport High students Tahlia Miechel, Jake Tilston and Ella-Jane Wehlow.

STUDENTS at Westport High School and Port Macquarie High School caught the footy fever last week and raised $1034 from their out-of-uniform days leading to the State of Origin match on Wednesday.
The schools were attempting to raise funds to contribute towards Curtis Landers’ medical expenses. Curtis is the young man who had a bad accident playing rugby league in Port Macquarie recently and is reported to be making steady progress.
Westport called their day Blue Day on Tuesday as deputy principal Michael Fraser said he didn’t want to see a maroon jersey anywhere. Students willingly donated gold coins to support the event. One or two even braved the deputy’s wrath and went along in a Queensland jumper. They were happy to pay more. Students and staff enjoyed the festive atmosphere and raised $534.
Port Macquarie High School students happily donned footy jumpers and donated gold coins for the privilege on Wednesday. Quite a variety of colours were on display because most students found some kind of football jersey for the occasion. Students and staff ended up collecting $500 for Curtis.
The accounts departments at both schools were busy on Thursday getting their cheques in the mail.
