EIA for waste facility

PORT Macquarie-Hastings Council is currently seeking consultants to undertake an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Cairncross Waste Management Facility.
The EIA will form part of a development application (DA) to the Department of Planning and Environment for the ongoing operation of the waste management facility.
The process is necessary as the original approval was limited to 20 years.
Council director Development and Environment Matt Rogers said the process would provide certainty to the community that waste management and recycling facilities would continue to be provided in the future.
Mr Rogers confirmed that an opportunity for community engagement on the ongoing operation of the facility would be available during consideration of the DA.
The tender period will take 28 days after which a report will be prepared for council’s consideration.
Preparation of the EIA is expected to take around six months, with final approval subject to State Government timeframes.
