PAST and present Footscray City Primary School students are preparing to kick up their heels this weekend during the school’s bi-annual festa.
The colourful event will celebrate 130 years of education at the Hyde St school with a fete, community concert and art show.
Principal Win Warren said organisers wanted to combine the three events into a cafe and arts-style precinct for the day.
“This will be a very special and memorable event for our children and the whole community,” she said.
“It is a great opportunity for us to come together as a school and highlight our achievements.”
A range of activities, including blacksmithing, a giant crocodile jumping tunnel, animal petting zoo and Shetland pony rides, have been organised with the support of funding and in kind donations from the community and businesses.
Ms Warren said she was overwhelmed by the support the school had received in the lead-up to the event.
Organisers have put out the call to former students to attend the day and see how the school, first known as Hyde Street State School, had changed.
Memorabilia will be on display at the festa and former students are invited to bring along any memorabilia they have so it can be copied and added to the collection. The festa is the school’s major fundraising event for 2007 and all funds raised support additional programs and resources to be bought over the next two years.
The festa will be held this Saturday from 10am to 4pm in Hyde St.
