DIPLOMA-level students, school-based apprentices and graduates from Port Macquarie TAFE went up against one another in an effort to be crowned local Worldskills champion for 2013.
The beauty students brushed, buffed and bedazzled for hours on end as they completed industry-standard criteria to impress local judges Sharon Fletcher (a business development executive from Kore Skin Care) and Alicia Williams (proprietor at Enchanted Beaute).
The competition was held for over five hours and adjudicators looked carefully for students who were polished, paid attention to detail and maintained a professional attitude towards their client.
School-based beauty apprentice Jade Robertson received first place with second place going to Tamika Franks and third place to Amber Mountain. Winners of the Worldskills competitions automatically have the opportunity to compete at national Worldskills which will be held in Perth next September.
“The quality of work judged was of an exceptionally high standard,” judge Sharon Fletcher said. “We were looking for students that stood out and the winner, Jade Robertson, certainly gave it everything she had.
“All of the entrants highlighted the high quality training provided at North Coast TAFE and their skills are a real attribute to their teachers. We are lucky to have such valuable instruction on the Mid North Coast.”
Jade said she was honoured to have won against such great competition.
“My TAFE teachers know their business and that has helped me immensely,” she said.
