PROGRESSIVE CINEMA
PRESENTS Mining the Truth, a short documentary which records the experiences of 60 students who travelled to communities affected by coal and coal-seam gas.
The film gives voice to people whose lives have been turned upside down by this industry. A free screening, introduced by environmental and social activist Pat Schultz, will be held on Wednesday 14 August at 7.30pm, Armidale Club, 91 Beardy St. Information: Steve Norris 0408 797 629.
SHOWBOAT WEEKEND
A CONCERT of well-loved music and songs from the popular musical by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein. Classic songs such as Old Man River, Only Make Believe and Smoke Gets in Your Eyes will be performed by your favourite local artists. PAINTING AND SCULPTURE EXHIBITION
THE vibrant impressionistic paintings by well-known local artist Meg Vivers in a new exhibition titled, Something Old, Something New, are complemented by the tantalising wire and willow strand sculptures of newcomer Emma Lanham. VISUAL INDULGENCE
A FEAST of new exhibitions at NERAM includes The Sheltering Tree by Print Circle, a group of Sydney women printmakers who also act as a support group for each other. Drawn through the year, a collection of diary drawings and paintings by Pamela French; and Creating Memories, an inter-generational project, in which the young and the elderly share stories using film, photography and mixed media.
