‘Old Girls’ helps inspire

MORE than 100 PLC Armidale “Old Girls” returned to the school for their respective reunions earlier this month.
In a first for the school, the weekend was officially launched with five of the 20-year leavers – graduates from 1993 – returning to class.
Head of School Debra Kelliher said they generously gave their time to share their career expertise and life experiences with the students from Years 9, 10 and 12, in an informal afternoon of Q&A.
The program called INSPIRE was a joint initiative of the Old Girls’ Union and PLC Armidale Development Office.
“It was such a purposeful, relevant and practical way to launch our annual Old Girls Weekend,” Mrs Kelliher said.
The five former students included: Liz Poulos (Dux of 1993), now a partner of an international legal firm in Brisbane; Kathryn Kelly (nee Allen) now a town planner in Brisbane, Camille Duggan (nee Lawton) who works in logistics with the Australian Defence Force and is based in Melbourne, Kate Brown (nee Alden) former operations and events manager with a major national field day/investment banking (based in Singleton), and Jane Donald (nee Berry) a real estate agent and formerly investment banking, based in Dubbo.
Most of these Old Girls were boarders at PLC and commented just how much the boarding experience had laid the foundation for dealing with life after school, and that PLC Armidale had shaped them as people. They are now assisting current students with career advice and contacts.
