Axed beef workers provided with lifeline

A temporary project coordinator has been appointed to link displaced workers from Wingham Beef Exports into new jobs and training opportunities.
Wayne Cooper was appointed to the role in what has been described as an important element of the Rapid Response Team Protocol that was implemented following the announcement earlier this month that around 80 casual staff were being laid off.
“The specific purpose of Mr Cooper’s role is to identify and pursue alternative employment and training options for staff affected by this decision,” said, Independent MP for Lyne Rob Oakeshott.
“This includes providing a single point of contact for the workers and all who are currently involved in trying to find these opportunities, including our Local Employment Coordinator, State Training Services, job agencies, training providers and other stakeholders.
“At this early stage, the Rapid Response process had already helped identify up to 60 potential jobs for displaced workers in areas including civil construction, meat processing, electrical trades and even the aged care sector.”
