A woman has been charged with being an accessory to murder after an investigation into an incident which occurred in Port Macquarie last year.
Just after 11.30pm on Friday, February 26, 2010 four males were walking east along Lake Road, Port Macquarie, when they were allegedly confronted by four other males in a red Toyota Corolla.
Police allege the occupants alighted from the car and one of them struck a 20-year-old man in the face, knocking him unconscious.
They further allege three of the attackers then chased a 17-year-old youth, west along Lake Road.
He ran onto the roadway and was struck by a passing Subaru Outback, previously not involved in the incident.
The teenager was rushed to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital but died the following night.
The 20-year-old was airlifted to Sydney’s St George Hospital.
Police from the Mid North Coast Local Area Command arrested and initially charged a 27-year-old Port Macquarie man with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company and affray.
Detectives later added the charge of manslaughter and recklessly cause grievous bodily harm to his list of alleged offences.
Another three males, a 17-year-old from Herrons Creek, a 20-year-old man from Port Macquarie and a 25-year-old man from Port Macquarie, were arrested.
They were charged with manslaughter, recklessly commit grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company and affray.
Following further inquiries into the incident, a 26-year-old woman was arrested last Wednesday at an address on Grassmere Way, Port Macquarie.
She was taken to Port Macquarie Police Station and subsequently charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
Police allege she was involved in the disposal of the weapons used during the incident.
She was granted conditional bail to appear at Port Macquarie Local Court on Monday, September 19.
