There will be tears of joy and some of sadness as mums and dads in the region wave goodbye to their children as school resumes this week.
For some it’s back to the books, for others it’s a new era.
Layla Maree Sutherland is five years old and is starting kindergarten at Hastings Public School this week.
“I can’t wait to make new friends and meet my teachers,” she said.
“I will miss my nanny and mummy but I told them not to be sad.”
“Mummy and Poppy Jon are picking me up on my first day and Poppy is going to buy me something special.
“My aunties and cousins are here to wish me luck like they did when I graduated at the ABC.”
The Independent’s crew wishes all the new and old recruits a safe and happy learning experience in the year ahead.
