Australia Day revellers have been praised for their good behaviour on January 26 by local Police.
Port Macquarie Police Chief Inspector Shane Cribb said crowds were “very well behaved” and “a vast improvement on past years”.
He said hot spots, including Shelly Beach and Town Beach, remained family orientated and party-goers tame.
Operation ‘Vine’, utilising general duties officers plus specialist Police within Mid-North Coast Local Area Command, were deployed within the region on Wednesday, January 26 to ensure everyone had a safe and enjoyable day, with large crowds of people who attended a number of local events throughout the day and evening.
Chief Insp Cribb said new laws giving Police the power to remove and tip out alcohol on the spot at beaches and reserves, among other public venues, contributed to the positive outcomes of the day.
Local MP Peter Besseling advocated for the Bill to be pushed through Parliament late last year.
On Australia Day the consumption of alcohol on all beaches and reserves in the Port Macquarie-Hastings region was banned from 9pm on Tuesday, January 25 until 9am on Thursday, January 27.
The move followed a number of incidents of anti-social behaviour at Town Beach and Rainbow Beach on Australia Day last year.
