Painting own path through program

Port Macquarie resident Jamie Bell said it has been a long, hard slog to feel committed to a job and to receive support to stay with it, but he has finally got there through an Indigenous Employment Program (IEP) apprenticeship.
The mature age apprentice-ship was offered to Jamie a part of Programmed’s goal to actively increase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representation in its workforce as a part of creating a diverse and positive workplace.
“This painting apprentic-eship has been the best thing that has happened to me,” Jamie said.
“I am two years into a four-year course and while it’s hard to balance studying and working, I am committed to this job,” he said.
“The apprenticeship has given me much more than a job and working has given me the chance to enjoy other parts of my life outside of work.”
Programmed’s Group Manager Talent, Engagement and Diversity Melissa Donald said the company’s Indigenous Employment Program aims to provide real jobs, structured training and mentoring and career development.
