Skills unmasked at awards

Students at North Coast TAFE’s Port Macquarie Campus will once again reveal their skills and talents in design at this year’s Greater Port Macquarie Business Awards on September 7 at Port Panthers.
Each year the campus is asked to provide an inspiring centre piece for each table, following a brief, to theme the glamorous event. For 2012 a range of concepts were presented to the organisers by the Certificate IV in Interior Design students with the final selection going to ‘Masquerade Madness’.
Josh Stewart and Xanthe Burke teamed up to deliver a fun, interactive and elegant design that will enhance the theme and experience of attendees on the night, which is also a sophisticated table decoration.
Josh and Xanthe said, “We were inspired by the use of a photo booth at a recent event and worked around developing an ‘entertaining’ centre piece. The project was also part of our overall assessment, so we are pleased that we can use our work to provide value to a community event with such a high profile — a great opportunity for graduates!”
The class worked as a team on the final concept and are looking forward to some positive feedback from guests attending the Awards.
“Every year we watch our guest’s faces light up as they enter the room and see what a wonderful job the students have done with the decorations. This year will be more interactive and we are hoping everyone joins in the fun. It is also nice to give emerging local designers the chance to expose their skills,” said Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce Executive Officer, Lisa McPherson.
The students will graduate at the end of the year, but many will build on their skills and hope to enrol in next year’s Diploma in Interior Design at the Port Macquarie Campus.
