In yet another drown-ing tragedy in the
past fortnight, and yet another over the
past 12 months, a surfer has lost his life off Port Macquarie’s popular Lighthouse Beach.
It is believed the man, in his 30s, was
an American who had been teaching kids to
surf over the summer break.
Emergency ser-vices were called to
the beach, just south of Port Macquarie, after
a man disappeared while surfing at about 8.30am last Friday, March 1.
His body washed up on the sand about 40 minutes later.
Attempts to revive the man, believed to
be aged in his mid 30s, were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police from Mid-North Coast Local
Area Command are currently conducting inquiries into the drowning.
They will prepare a report for the information of the NSW Coroner.
