Library turns new leaf in digital books

PUBLIC libraries have come a long way in the digital era, in a bid to stay relevent to society.
The Port Macquarie-Hastings branches are no exception and last week they launched a new feature to provide an added service for residents.
Library members are now be able to download a vast range of magazines straight to their computer or tablet, following the introduction of Zinio.
Zinio is an app that contains more than 5500 magazine titles that can be read seamlessly through any device.
Council community and organisational development director Lesley Atkinson said providing the app to the community was all part of keeping library services current.
“Council has subscribed to the Zinio app, which means our members will be able to bring their computers and tablets into the library and download their favourite magazine title for free,” she said.
“The app also contains a huge range of articles and papers on interesting topics that will benefit those researching and studying.
“While the core business of loaning books remains the central point of our library service, we are really committed to continuing to look for new ways to incorporate technology and resource sharing into the library services.”
