Marine Rescue Port Macquarie will be holding its 19th annual Boating Safety and Information night at Tacking Point Surf Club this Friday, November 9, commencing at 7.30pm.
The night has been completely re-vamped, with a new presentation format, over $600 in giveaways to PM members in attendance and a free drink voucher on entry. Guest speakers from the NSW Maritime Authority and Simrad Australia will provide updates on boating rules and marine electronics.
There will also be some unusual footage, including an octopus catching and eating a shark, a white pointer shark circling a local boat off Point Plomer and some ‘interesting’ fishing techniques.
Marine Rescue spokesman Geoff Shelton said, “A highlight of the evening will be a flare demonstration from Rescue 30, which will be positioned one nautical mile off the Surf Club. At exactly 8.30pm two parachute red flares and then two hand-held red flares will be ignited to show everyone present what they look like. Marine Rescue receives many calls from the public reporting seeing a flare which, on the majority of occasions, turns out to be a false alarm. This demonstration will enable people to see a ‘real’ flare and we encourage everyone in the lighthouse beach area to keep a good eye out on the night.”
The PM night is a chance for the Marine Rescue to share with boating enthusiasts the services that are provided by the group.
The evening is an information and social night open to anybody with an interest in boating. There is no charge for entry and light refreshments will be provided and beer and wines will be available for sale.
