Mid-North Coast Police have renewed their appeal for information in relation to the alleged attack on an elderly man in his home last year.
The 75-year-old man was found unconscious and suffering serious head, facial and stomach injuries in his home in Dangar Street, West Kempsey, about 6.30pm on Saturday, November 20.
The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before he was taken to Kempsey Hospital for further treatment.
He was later airlifted to John Hunter Hospital where he died six days later.
A 28-year-old man was arrested and charged in relation to the incident; however, police believe the incident might be related to a similar occurrence in Dondingalong, near Kempsey, a few days earlier.
About 11.30pm on November 18, three men broke into an elderly couple’s home on Gowings Hill Road and robbed them of an amount of money.
The elderly man was assaulted during the incident.
“It is my strong belief that the incidents are related,” said Mid-North Coast LAC Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Steven Clarke.
“We are eager to speak to anyone who may have information and who hasn’t yet spoken to us,” he said.
“We have received several new leads, but any additional information the community can offer is invaluable to our investigation.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
A reward of up to $1000 is payable for information which leads to an arrest.
All information provided is treated in the strictest confidence.
