A local grower has taken out top prizes for its produce and preserves at the 2012 Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Port Macquarie’s Ricardoes Tomatoes and Strawberries farm’s standardtradiro tomatoes were awarded the grand champion ribbon in the show’s annual District Exhibits Competition.
It is the fourth consecutive year Ricardoes tomatoes took out the top honour, representing Port Macquarie in Central District.
But the tomatoes had a close rival this year: the company’s own Ricardoestrinidad Roma variety, which earned a score of 95 per cent from the judges.
Ricardoes’ third tomato entry, its flavorino cherry variety, scored a total of 94 per cent for its attributes.
Ricardoes’ strawberries scored an aggregate of 92 per cent and its strawberry jam was among a selection of six Central regional jams in the preserves section awarded first prize.
The awards were announced at a Royal Agricultural Society dinner in Sydney on Sunday night, April 8.
