A roundtable consultation in Port Macquarie involving Independent MP for Lyne Rob Oakeshott has set to work towards achieving fairer Youth Allowance arrangements for students in the Lyne electorate and throughout regional Australia.
“The reports back from the roundtable are that it was well attended and I am pleased that students, parents and other concerned residents in our area were able to have a direct say on this issue,” Mr Oakeshott said.
“This forum is one of only a few being held nationally as part of a fast-tracked review into student income support that was negotiated by Independent MPs over the past six months,” he said.
“I have made a submission incorporating the feedback I’ve received from concerned students and families in the Lyne electorate.
“We will now be applying pressure on Government to complete and publish the review, and to introduce and pass legislation within the next six months,” Mr Oakeshott said.
