A Port Macquarie based program aimed at improving the dental health of clients on an opiate treatment program has taken out the top award at the Mid-North Coast Local Health Network Quality Awards.
Senior Dental Officer at Port Macquarie Community Health Dr Roshan Abraham, who developed the ‘Smile Wide with Pride’ program, accepted the award at a ceremony held in Coffs Harbour last week.
Awards were also presented to other local programs:
n Category 1: Promoting Health. Winner: Shaping a New Generation (Physiotherapy, Port Macquarie Base Hospital). Runner-up: Treasure Your Bones (Physiotherapy, PMBH).
n Category 2a: Creating better patient journeys (patient safety). Winner: Peace of Mind Project (PMBH)
n Category 2b: Creating better patient journeys (improving access to services). Winner: Primary Contact Physiotherapy in the Emergency Department (PMBH). Commended: Early Pregnancy Assessment Service Project (PMBH)
n Category 3: Improving primary health and care in the community. Runner-up: Port Macquarie Comprehensive Public Dental Care Program (Port Macquarie Community Health).
n Category 4: Building partnerships for health. Joint Winner: BoorongenDjugun Aged Care Oral Health Outreach (PMCH). Commended: Skin penetration operator seminars (Public Health Unit)
n Category 5: Making Smart Choices. Commended: Improving the Management of Hospital Pharmacy Imprest (PMBH).
n Category 7: Being ready for new risks and opportunities. Winner: Smile Wide with Pride (overall winner).
