The Port Macquarie Historical Society is celebrating Australian Women’s History Month with a temporary exhibition ‘Bring a Plate’ at the Port Macquarie Historical Museum in Clarence Street, Port Macquarie.
This year’s theme is women in the business of food.
The ‘Bring a Plate’ exhibition features treasured domestic objects, including textiles such as tablecloths, aprons and doilies from the Port Macquarie Historical Society’s large collection.
There are also cook books, cookware, crockery and photographs of women and food.
“The exhibition recognises our local kitchen entrepreneurs such as family cooks and women’s groups including the CWA and Church guilds who have raised many funds for community projects through their catering efforts,” says volunteer curator Debbie Sommers.
A special open day was held yesterday, and included a coffee morning talk about the exhibition and the stories behind it.
The ‘Bring a Plate’ exhibition is on display until March 31.
