Stingray Creek Bridge design commences

Design work for the replacement of Stingray Creek Bridge has officially commenced, following the appointment of specialist bridge design consultants Opus International at the July meeting of Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
Director of Infrastructure Services Jeffery Sharp said workers will be on site at random up until November this year, carrying out the necessary site investigations to assist the design work.
“This work will include drilling of the river bed to take soil samples and locating existing utility services,” said Mr Sharp.
Council requests all users of the road and waterway around the bridge to travel with caution around the site, whilst these site investigations are being carried out.
“Commencement of these site investigations is a significant step forward. Opus International have a demonstrated capacity and considerable experience to deliver the detailed designs as required by the development consent that was issued for the bridge replacement in June 2010.
“The designs are expected to be completed by the end of this year, which will enable Council to be ready for construction early in 2012, subject to the raising of the funds,” said Mr Sharp.
