Local tourism is on the up and up, bucking state and national tourism trends, with our most recent Easter holiday campaign recording a whopping 46 per cent growth in accommodation bookings through accommodation website, Wotif.com.
Council’s Tourism and Events unit estimates that an additional $500,000 was generated within the local tourism industry during this period.
Greater Port Macquarie Tourism will use the momentum generated from its successful partnership with Wotif.com to roll out its winter tourism campaign in June.
According to Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s Manager of Tourism and Events Linda Hall, as a result of the campaign, our region has also seen an increase of 58 per cent in the number of room nights booked.
The success of the recent Easter campaign follows on from a fantastic year for local tourism.
More than 1.6 million visitors came to Greater Port Macquarie in 2010, which is an increase of 300,000 people from 2009.
These figures equate to an economic benefit of $457 million.
Greater Port Macquarie Tourism’s winter campaign will be launched on the tail of Wintersun, an event that is estimated to attract up to 60,000 visitors to the region between June 3-13 for a 10-day rockabilly, classic car and retro festival (see today’s front page of the Independent).
