The Rotary Club of Port Macquarie West held its 42nd changeover last Tuesday.
The club received its charter in April 1971.
The club has a proud history of involvement with the community through varied community service projects.
Apart from supporting local charities, the club has, over the years, either been the instigator or a strong supporter of many local landmarks.
One of these is Rotary Lodge, an establishment that assists by providing temporary accommodation to people with relatives who are spending time in hospital due to serious illnesses.
The Towers of Strength has also been a project in which the local Rotary clubs worked together to build lifesavers’ observation towers in many of the popular swimming beaches in Port Macquarie.
During the 2011/2012 year, the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie West has participated in the continuing project of the additions and improvements to Rotary Park situated near Town Beach.
A vocational excellence competition was held during the year, with many excellent local business entrants.
In youth matters, the club has continued to work with local primary and secondary schools to support the youth, our future. They have continued their work aimed at Year 8 students.
The outgoing club president Hany Hanna, in his address to the club on changeover night, indicated that, during the year, the club has donated more than $ 27,000 to various deserving organisations – local, national and worldwide.
The club will continue its strong ties and involvement with the community under the stewardship of the 2012/2013 President Anne Meister OAM.
