Work started earlier this week to build an overtaking lane between Wauchope and the Pacific Highway near the Stoney Creek booster station to improve traffic flow on the Oxley Highway.
The O’Farrell-Stoner Government has allocated funding for the construction of the new overtaking lane which will be around one kilometre long and widened to allow for an extra lane and improved road shoulders.
The community’s feedback was considered in the concept design preparation for the overtaking lane.
The Oxley Highway is one of the main east-west routes in northern NSW
which links Port Macquarie and the Pacific Highway to the New England Highway.
About 9,500 vehicles use the road daily to travel between the Pacific Highway.
NSW Deputy Premier & Member for Oxley, Andrew Stoner, said, “Port Macquarie is a recognised growth area in NSW and planned development in nearby Thrumster and Wauchope is expected
to increase traffic between
Wauchope and Port Macquarie significantly over the next 10 years,” Mr Stoner said.
Work is expected to take around six months to complete, weather permitting.
Motorists can expect changed traffic conditions on weekdays between 7am and 6pm and from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays.
During work there may be short delays. Traffic control will be in place
Every effort will be made to minimise any noise associated with this work.
Wet weather may change work dates and times.
Motorists are advised to plan their journey, allow extra travel time and follow all signs.
