Efforts of Vietnam Vets remembered

National Servicemen — Merv McCudden, Dennis Dick, Graham Smith and Les Pearson.

Veterans from all conflicts and their families gathered at Port Macquarie’s Town Green on Saturday morning for a service to commemorate Vietnam Veterans’ Day.
Almost 60,000 Australian defence force personnel and civilians were involved in the war for more than a decade, from 1962.
The commemorative service was an opportunity to remember those who served, including the 521 who paid the ultimate sacrifice and those who have lost their lives since then, many as a result of their service in Vietnam.
Today, more than 42,000 surviving veterans still carry the effects of the war and the unacceptable treatment they received on their return home.
The Vietnam Veterans Peacekeepers and Peace-makers Association of Australian provides support to Veterans of all conflicts.
