Stadium repairs in the hoop

The roof at Port Macquarie Indoor Stadium will be replaced next month.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council will spend $130,000 re-sheeting the entire stadium roof using ClipLok roofing and replacing the box gutters. The current roofing has deteriorated significantly and during heavy rain, leaks water onto the indoor courts.
Over the last three months, the stadium has been closed for safety reasons (wet, slippery floors) on ten occasions, said Manager Recreation and Buildings Liam Bulley.
“This has impacted on the progress of weekly competitions enjoyed by more than 1200 patrons each week, and has the potential to affect several major events currently hosted at the facility including the Pacific Jam Basketball Tournament,” Mr Bulley said.
The allocation of funds to repair the roof is in addition to $2.8 million announced in the Federal Budget to convert the facility into a multi-functional sporting complex over two financial years.
The Port Macquarie Indoor Sports Stadium is part of Council’s Stuart Park Sporting Complex and comprises three basketball courts, change rooms, reception, canteen and associated amenities.
