Transport for isolated women

NSW Deputy Premier and Member for Oxley, Andrew Stoner, has welcomed $20,000 in NSW Government funding to provide transport assistance to disadvantaged women and their families from the Nambucca Valley in the north to the Great Lakes region in the south.
“This funding will help connect disadvantaged women and their families with the community and allow them to participate in local programs run by neighbourhood centres,” Mr Stoner said.
“Many women in these regions are physically and socially isolated from their community. Providing transport will encourage them to join in and become active and more valuable members of their community.”
Mr Stoner said those who participate in community services generally improve their health, education, employment and social situations.
“This project is an excellent example of how NSW Government can work together with the non-government sector to address a serious community issue and provide support for isolated families in NSW,” he said.
This is one of many local initiatives that are being rolled-out across regional NSW as part of the NSW Government’s support for local and community transport solutions.
