Phyllis Errington has spent many years telling her family that, instead of making a fuss over her on birthdays or Christmas, that all the lovely outings and dinners for these occasions they have taken her on are not necessary and that she would be just as happy having sandwiches up on the Headlands at Lion Park.
Her friend Julie Constable to whom Phyllis has been a Special Mum to for 25 years, decided to call her bluff at long last.
Together with Phyllis’s daughter Christine Errington-Smith and her son Ken Errington, Julie arranged a special picnic table at Lion Park with all the trimmings for her 90th birthday.
The Staff Room catering service delivered her favourite sandwiches and scones with jam and cream.
Phyllis’s surprise was evident when daughter Christine pulled into the car park at the Headlands where her son Ken and Julie were waiting as a surprise.
Phyllis’s comment was that it has taken all these years for us to get it right.
