Alleged attempted child abduction

Police are appealing for witnesses following yet another alleged attempted abduction at Coffs Harbour.
About 8am on Friday, a 13-year-old girl was walking on Park Beach Road when two males called to her from across the road.
The girl ignored the pair and continued walking.
A short time later, the two men crossed the road and approached the teenager from behind, taking her to a nearby bush track before stopping at a grass embankment where they allegedly attempted to undress her.
An unknown man who was walking on the gravel track saw the alleged incident and intervened.
The girl ran from the area and police were later notified by school staff.
Police would like to speak with two men who may be able to assist with inquiries into the alleged incident.
The first man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, under 180cms tall, very skinny build, aged in his late 20s to 30s, with short brown cropped hair, and a black tattoo pattern over right shoulder blade.
The man smelled strongly of alcohol and cigarettes and was last seen wearing board shorts and a grey tank singlet.
The second man is described as being of chubby build and wearing a dark t-shirt. He also smelled strongly of alcohol and cigarettes.
Investigators would also like to speak with the man who was walking on the bush track from the western end of Boultwood Street towards Park Beach Road and intervened in the incident.
Anyone with information about the incident or the identity or current whereabouts of the two men is asked to contact Coffs Harbour Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Meanwhile, police are urging parents to reinforce the ‘Safe People, Safe Places’ messages with their children, including the following safety tips:
n Avoid walking on your own and instead walk with other family members, friends or an adult you know;
n Walk near busier roads and streets, or use paths where there are lots of other people;
n Make sure your parents or another adult you know knows where you are at all times;
n Always walk straight home or to the place you are walking to;
n Know where safe places are — a shop, service station, police station, library or school. If you are ever frightened, you should go to one of these places and ask them to call the police;
nLearn about safe adults you can look for and talk to if you need help — police officers, teachers at school, adults you know and trust;
n Don’t talk to people you don’t know and never get into a car with someone you don’t know. If a car stops on the side of the road and you don’t know the person inside, do not stop; and
n If you are scared, call Triple Zero (000) and tell them you are scared.
n If a person who approaches you attempts to physically grab you, yell out ‘go away, I don’t know you’. This tells other people around you have been approached by someone you don’t know.
