A Port Macquarie man charged with the murder of a Gold Coast nightclub singer has been extradited to Queensland.
Twenty-four-year-old former resident Matthew Cox, appeared in Port Macquarie Local Court on Thursday where it was ordered he be returned to prison in Queensland awaiting trial.
According to Gold Coast Police Detective Superintendent Dave Hutchinson, Cox then appeared in Southport Magistrate’s Court in Queensland on Saturday.
Det Supt Hutchinson said Cox was refused bail, as stood from Port Macquarie Local Court, and was remanded into custody until May 18.
Cox is facing trial on one count of murder.
According to Det Supt Hutchinson, Cox was an orderly at Gold Coast Hospital who was also involved in a band called Sex ’n’ Chocolate.
The lead singer of the band was New Zealander Tony Williams.
On December 24, nightclub singer Williams, 38, was allegedly found dead in Cox’s apartment on Sunshine Boulevard, Mermaid Waters.
Det Supt Hutchinson said police believed that Williams had been allegedly killed on December 23.
He said, whilst Cox awaits trial, police investigations will continue into the case.
Cox has now been transported to the Arthur Gorrie Correction Centre in Queensland.
