The Wauchope Aquatic Centre’s $1.575 million-plus overhaul will soon become a reality.
The move follows last week’s Council meeting where the Masterplan and concept for stage one were adopted.
Tenders will now be called for consultants to undertake a full design and specifications for stage one of the proposed works.
Stage one works include the refurbishment of the existing 50 metre Olympic sized pool, construction of a six-lane indoor 25 metre lap/hydrotherapy pool, formation of new children’s shade covered outdoor water play area.
Acting Director of Infrastructure, Gary Randall said, “Following the recent public exhibition period, the overall community feedback was positive, however there are concerns regading some matters relating to the stages which we are now addressing so that the project meets the needs of the community.
“After the completion of the consultancy tender process, a further brief will be prepared and presented to the successful consultant to incorporate the community’s suggestions, subject to any budget constraints.
“While Council has committed the $1.575 million from the sale of Timbertown to the project, further funding options via grant opportunities will continue to be explored by Council and the Wauchope Indoor Heated Pool Committee,” Mr Randall said.
