Minister opens doors

Minister for Ageing John Ajaka, Gillian Bottomley, Fiona Irving and Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams at the dementia garden at Regis Hastings Manor on Tuesday.

MINISTER for Ageing John Ajaka paid a visit to Port Macquarie earlier this week.
Accompanied by Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams, Mr Ajaka opened a garden for people living with dementia at Hastings Regis Manor in Port Macquarie and a recently completed extension at NewIDAFE Inc.
Regis Hastings Manor is a private specialist high-care facility that provides accommodation for 100 patients.
“The Friendship Wing will provide a quiet, calming respite area for dementia patients and features a variety of flowers, colours and fragrance so residents can enjoy the sensory experience of being outdoors,” Mr Ajaka said.
NewlDAFE is a local organisation which provides a range of day and post-school programs for people with disability.
Mr Ajaka said he was pleased to be able to open the new section, which was made possible with a $34,000 funding contribution from the NSW Government.
“We were elected to renovate the infrastructure that makes a difference to both our economy and people’s lives and this is a great example of that,” he said.
“The new extension includes activity and massage therapy rooms and offices. These new rooms will enable this wonderful organisation to continue to deliver its services within the community.”
