Music to their ears

Brisbane Water Brass Band - coming to the Hastings this weekend.

A BOLD, brassy performance from the Brisbane Water Brass Band this weekend is set to boost the community fundraising barometer for Wauchope’s new Palliative Care Unit.
The Rotary Club of Wauchope and the Wauchope RSL Club are hosting the fundraiser, which will see the 35-member concert band from the Central Coast deliver an evening of diverse musical experiences for just the sum of a gold-coin donation.
A regular visitor to Wauchope, the Brisbane Water Brass Band has collected numerous awards and accolades since it formed in 2003.
Wauchope Rotary Club secretary Neville Parsons said the community band had developed a strong local following, and he expected the concert would again hit the right note with big band music lovers.
“The Brisbane Water Brass Band is a small group of enthusiastic brass players of broad musical experience,” Mr Parsons said.
“They have performed in Wauchope around this time for the past couple of years and everyone who has attended has raved about the entertainment and the quality music.
“The RSL Club, Rotary and the band will join forces in April to help boost the community fundraiser for the new Palliative Care Unit, which is nearing completion at the rear of Wauchope District Memorial Hospital.
“Visitors will be asked to make a gold-coin donation, with the proceeds to be used to help furnish the unit,” Mr Parsons said.
The community appeal has now reached more than $70,000.
“The money will be spent on high-tech equipment, furniture and furnishings that will help make Wauchope’s Palliative Care Unit one of the best in the country,” Mr Parsons said.
The $2.4m construction project has been funded by the Australian Government National Partnership Agreement on Improving Public Hospital Services.
The Brisbane Water Brass Band concert starts at 7.30pm on Saturday 5 April at the Wauchope RSL Club.
