School’s fund-raising feet

STUDENTS from Telegraph Point Public School will be running in the Adidas School Fun Run to raise extra funds for their school on Thursday 10 April.
Karen White from Telegraph Point Public School said the fun run presented an excellent platform to get students excited about physical activity.
“Telegraph Point Public School is setting the standard for other schools to follow by choosing a way to raise money that delivers positive messages about the importance of physical activity to children’s health, growth and development,” she said.
“I am very proud of the students for getting involved.”
The run students will be seeking support from the local community for running in the event and sponsorship is vital to make their fund-raiser a success.
Brendan Hopp, the general manager of the fund-raising group, said it was wonderful that organisations such as Adidas and CUA were making this style of health-based school fundraising possible because this sector was traditionally dominated by junk food fund-raisers like chocolate drives.
“Over the last three years the Adidas School Fun-Run has helped schools to raise more than $9.1 million to purchase computers, books, sporting equipment and other resources,” Mr Hopp said.
“Plus with the additional option to use online fund-raising, students can now reach family and friends interstate or overseas which saw schools increase their overall profit by 16.4 per cent in 2013.”
“A further $230,000 has been donated in school grants by program partner, CUA, through its Community Care initiative – an extension to the Adidas School Fun Run.”
