YOUNG football players from the Birapi nation in Port Macquarie and Aboriginal nations around NSW are preparing to converge on Orange for the first PCYC NSW Nations of Origin Futsal competition.
Male and female Futsal teams from seven NSW Aboriginal nations will play off against each other in Orange on Tuesday 8 July.
This new under-14s competition is being run as an indoor small-side curtain-raiser to the second Nations of Origin rugby league 7s tournament which will be held at Dubbo on 9 and 10 July, which will involve nearly 800 under-16-year-old boys and girls representing 23 NSW Aboriginal nations.
The event is an initiative of PCYC NSW and each team will include indigenous and non-indigenous players to promote reconciliation within communities and engage Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal members in PCYC through sport.
All teams will represent their community under their traditional Aboriginal nation name, with uniforms adorned with their local totems.
The competition has the backing of Football NSW and the Football Federation of Australia Futsal.
