A jumble of snags points to past

Volunteer Lil Andrews admires some of the artworks already donated for the jumble sale.

THE Port Macquarie Historical Society is staging an open day to raise awareness of the museum and raise much-needed funds.
The open day will include a jumble sale and sausage sizzle and will be held at the museum (22 Clarence Street) on Saturday, 5 October from 9.30am to 2pm.
“Our members have been busy clearing out their garages and homes in readiness for the sale,” Historical Society president Debbie Sommers said.
“There will be the usual items including books, plants, games, household goods, tools and bric-a-brac. This year there are also many old history books, which may be of interest to collectors.
“There will be a sausage sizzle, including egg and bacon rolls for those who are hungry and entry to the museum for the day is free of charge.
“Once people have finished browsing and buying at the jumble sale, they can wander through the museum’s 14 rooms and galleries and experience life at Port Macquarie in earlier years.
A number of local history publications are also for sale.
Donations for the jumble sale are most welcome. Goods can be dropped off at the museum.
Proceeds will go towards maintaining the society’s state heritage register of listed building circa 1836 and additions.
