LOCAL police proved that community policing isn’t dead when they helped change the wheel of a car after an elderly driver had an embarrassing mishap.
The woman was trying to park in front of the Baskin and Robbins ice-cream store in Horton Street in Port Macquarie when she accidentally hit the accelerator instead of brake, driving into the store front and damaging the bi-fold doors and a timber post supporting an upstairs balcony. Luckily no-one was injured and the store managed to keep trading via a side door.
Acting Sergeant Tracy Watts and Senior Constable Bryan Carney from Port Macquarie Police attended the scene and once they had taken care of the business side of the accident, turned their hand to changing the right front tyre on the car, which was damaged in the accident.
“We are just helping her out so she can get the vehicle home with her family,” Sgt Watts said.
