New group is keen on craft

IF you enjoy doing any sort of easily portable craft and are free on a Wednesday, the organisers of a new craft group in Port Macquarie would love to hear from you.
Barbara Alley and her friend Yvonne Purse decided to start the group because there was no existing group that met on a Wednesday, which was the most convenient day for them.
The new group will meet every Wednesday at noon at the Port Macquarie Seniors Citizens Centre in Munster Street, Port Macquarie.
Attendees will have to join the Senior Citizens and also pay a weekly fee of $2.
“We welcome any sort of craft like sewing or embroidery that you can easily transport,” Barbara said.
Barbara, a retired teacher, does embroidery and patchwork, while Yvonne does crocheting and Hardanger (a sort of linen work embroidery). Both are happy to help beginners in their area of expertise.
While Barbara says the emphasis will be on craft, the social side is almost as important.
“It’s really about getting out and sharing your project with other women and having fun together- a sort of sisterhood,” she said.
