PORT-Macquarie-Hastings Council in collaboration with the Glasshouse is encouraging seniors to enjoy a day at the movies thanks to the Young at Heart Seniors Film Festival.
The free event will consist of a smorgasbord of free short films for seniors to enjoy.
This special NSW Seniors Week screening will showcase the finalists in the annual national short film competition.
Those people attending will have the opportunity to vote for the Regional NSW Audience Award for Best Film.
The council’s community development group manager Lucilla Marshall said the film festival would give film-loving seniors the opportunity to discover the latest up and coming talent (young and old) in Australian cinema.
“Council is delighted to be selected as a regional venue for the touring film festival which is a flagship event of NSW Seniors Week”.
The 75-minute program features an actor over 60 in every leading role. Aussie actors featured in past festivals have included Jack Thompson and Jacki Weaver.
As part of local Seniors Week activities there will also be a salute to our seniors with a concert at the Glasshouse featuring the accomplished community music group Sinfonia Mid North Coast. The program will include popular music from favourite classical works, some jazz and instrumental solos to familiar show melodies.
