Facing up to the challenge

Tim Parry - shaving his much-loved beard to raise funds for the Cancer Council.

PORT Macquarie Relay For Life Team Happy Zone will be living up to its name when it comes to holding fundraisers which bring a smile to the faces of participants in the Hastings Relay For Life.
As part of their fund-raising they will be staging some fun events during the relay – which is the Cancer Council’s major fund-raiser for the year – including a giant snakes and ladders game on the infield. The winning pair overall will take away the title, trophy and prize.
Team member Tim Parry, who already sports a bald plate, is making a major sacrifice for the cause and will be having the beard he has worn for the past 21 years shaved off.
“Nobody has seen my face without hair since 1993,” Tim said. “I intend raising as much money as possible for the Cancer Council and keeping their ground-breaking work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer going on, helping to save thousands of lives all the time.”
To keep everyone further amused and on their toes, Happy Zone are also organising a three-legged race.
You can join in their fund-raising before the weekend by supporting their giant raffle, for which tickets are available from the Dad and Daughter Backyard Nursery at 63 Greenmeadows Drive, Port Macquarie. The nursery will be donating $1 from every plant sold until 21 March to the Happy Zone team.
All the fun will take place during the Hastings Relay for Life, which will be held at Stuart Park, Port Macquarie, on 22 and 23 March. There is still time to form a team or join an existing team, if you would like to join in the relay and help raise funds for the Cancer Council.
