THE Sensational Seniors Expo organised by the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council is due to take off with a bang.
With over 70 healthy, wealthy, wise and travel stalls, workshops and live performances, the expo is aimed at helping seniors discover an extensive range of services and information under one roof – thanks to the venue sponsor Panthers.
The council’s community development group manager Lucilla Marshall is encouraging the community to take part in the expo, as valuable information can be taken from the experience.
“The council co-ordinated this event with the aim of accommodating as much information alongside entertainment by seniors under one roof,” Ms Marshall said.
“Newly arrived and newly retired seniors are especially encouraged to come along, with the opportunity to sign up and join a social or community group on the day”.
Some of the live entertainment will include performances by Rhythm Revue, Sing Australia, U3A, Let’s Dance Rock ’n’ Roll, readings from the Fellowship of Australian Writers and more. Seniors can chat to the performers during the day to determine if it is a group they would like to join.
Free workshops will include Seniors Travel with Flight Centre, Lifestyle Living with Catholic Care of the Aged, Looking after your Hearing with Port Macquarie Acoustics and How to Use a Telescope with Mid North Coast Astronomy.
Enjoy free one act plays in Pier 1 and don’t forget painter Maureen Hales will be creating original artworks for all to enjoy.
Stallholders on the day will include the Animal Welfare Service, Australian Red Cross, Cancer Council, Community Garden, Douglas Vale Winery, Hastings Bonsai Club, Fly Fishers Club and many more.
The expo is being held on Monday 17 March from 9am to 3pm and is part of NSW Seniors Week, which runs from 15 to 23 March.
It was organised by a council community development officer and the seniors working group in conjunction with representatives from U3A, Department of Veteran Affairs, National Seniors, Heart Support and Residents Action Network.
Several other events and concerts are being staged as part of Seniors Week in the Hastings.
