Magpies let loose

Port City's Mick Hourigan knocks up a century (with his $14 bat!).

IN Hastings River District Cricket, the Port City Leagues Magpies first grade side scored an impressive three-wicket win over Wauchope on a bowler-friendly wicket at Andrews Park.
Wauchope was bundled out for 92 (Kyle Bray 4/22, Jesse Schmidt 3/10 and Keegan Glavurdic with four catches) before the ’Pies hit the winning runs courtesy of a stubborn Tony Bransdon with 32 and Phil McVicar’s 24 as wickets fell all around them.
The second-grade Port City side was impressive in its six-wicket victory over the Pirates. B.J. Schneider’s 67 runs and 3/17 was well supported by Luke Jephcott with 58 not out and Sean Staniforth’s 4/24 to easily account for the opposition.
The third grade Swoopers made it four in a row to start the season with a 99-run win over the Pirates Mutineers. Ray Atkins (60 runs) led the way with the bat while Nik James (2/5), Jamie Glason (2/10), Darren Hall (2/15) and Dylan Lewis (2/24) shared the wickets.
Meanwhile the third grade Strikers notched up their first victory of the year defeating Comboyne by five wickets. Chasing 153 (Adam Power 3/32 and Brendan Pateman 2/12) the Magpies’ Mick Hourigan cracked a magnificent 102 to reach the target in next to no time.
Port City’s fourth grade team put in a gutsy effort to score 9/192 with Rohan Kew 74 smacking the ball to all parts of the ground but the bowlers couldn’t prevent the Pirates Rum Runners from eventually taking the win.
