LOCAL residents are being urged to snap up a copy of the 2014 Osmosis calendar and support a good cause.
The 2014 calendar was unveiled by Port Macquarie-Hastings councillor Rob Turner as part of the National Water Week launch at the Glasshouse.
The Osmosis project has been running for a number of years and continues to attract a huge amount of interest.
The 2014 calendar is the 10th produced by council and is considered one of the best yet. It features a selection of entries from across the open, junior and youth poetry and photography categories in this year’s Osmosis competition.
The calendar is available at a cost of $5 from council offices, libraries, the Sea Acres Rainforest Centre in Port Macquarie and selected outlets with all proceeds going to WaterAid, an international non-government organisation working to provide access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation in the world’s poorest communities.
This year’s Osmosis winners are as follows:
OPEN CATEGORY:
Photography: Winner – Matthew Cramer (The Water Cycle – Literally); highly commended – Neil Sinclair (Crabbing at Sunset), Ivan Sajko (Flynns Beach Rockpools).
Altered reality: Winner – Susan Shaw (Turn off the tap); highly commended – Petina Alexander (Dawn Exodus), Stephen O’Connor (Silky River).
Poetry: Winner – Mel Stuart (Water like wisdom is ours to behold); highly commended – Gianna Douglas (Wilson River Lullaby).
YOUTH CATEGORY:
Photography: Winner – Chase O’Leary (Untitled 3); highly commended: Kate Richardson (Water dancers), Moby Preen (Catch of the day).
Altered reality: Winner – Zach Taylor (Stormy Sea)
Poetry: Winner – Tayla Wehlburg (She is not our slave)
JUNIOR CATEGORY:
Photography: Winner – Tom Preen (Hydrosphere and Biosphere interaction); highly commended – Bodhi Ky Cook (Shower), Evan Davison (Up close to the valuable source).
