Hat’s on for Rotary

DON’T forget to wear your snazziest hat to work tomorrow.
Friday, October 11 is Hat Day, the day you are invited to wear a hat to work and make a donation towards research into mental health conditions throughout Australia.
“The day, although established by Rotary clubs two years ago, is intended for the entire community and the big hope is that this year businesses will lend support to the day,” a spokesperson for the Port Macquarie Rotary Club said.
“All money raised goes into research – there are no administration fees. The money is administered by Australian Rotary Health, Australia’s biggest non-government fund-raiser for research into mental illnesses.”
Money can be placed directly into the Australian Rotary Health bank account at any National Bank branch.
“In any given year one in five Australians are affected by mental illness, whether depression, Alzheimer’s disease, anorexia, schizophrenia or a whole host of other conditions,” a spokesperson said.
“Workplaces have been particularly targeted this year for support.”
The types of hats are many and varied.
“They can be formal, or silly, or hats made from newspapers,” the spokesperson said. “The objective is to raise money for research.”
Several Rotary clubs in this district have already held Hat Day hat parades, including the Port Macquarie club, whose event was scheduled to take place last night.
Hat Day was started by Australian Rotary Health two years ago to continue in its fund-raising for medical research. Since then, many businesses and individuals in addition to Rotary clubs have supported the day.
